Celebrini on Olympic Dreams, Bedard, Social Media & Sharks' Season! (2026)

Get ready for a thrilling journey as we dive into the world of sports and the Olympic hype! The future of Canadian hockey is on everyone's lips, and we're here to uncover the truth.

Macklin Celebrini, the San Jose Sharks' rising star, has captured the nation's attention with his incredible performance, ranking third in the NHL with an impressive 43 points. But here's where it gets controversial: will Celebrini and his fellow phenom, Connor Bedard, both represent Canada at the 2026 Olympics? This is the question on everyone's mind, and Celebrini has some insightful thoughts to share.

When asked about making Team Canada, Celebrini reveals, "It's a dream come true for any Canadian kid, but right now, my focus is on the season and letting the chips fall where they may. Being part of that team would be an honor beyond words." But has he had any conversations with the Canada head coach, Jon Cooper, or GM Doug Armstrong? Celebrini's answer is a straightforward "No." However, he acknowledges Cooper's comments about the difficulty of selecting the team with players like him and Bedard making such an impact.

Celebrini shares his admiration for Bedard, saying, "It's incredible to see his success and how he's elevating his team. Watching his highlights and seeing him succeed is a joy." He also reveals that he occasionally talks to Joe Thornton about his Olympic experience, mostly due to the hectic schedule.

When it comes to his own Olympic memories, Celebrini admits, "Not many. I was only four during Sid's golden goal, but rewatching it brings back some memories." But his experience playing with Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon at the World Championships was truly special. "They were so welcoming and it was amazing to be around two legends. Seeing how they carry themselves and approach each day was inspiring."

Getting to know Crosby personally was a highlight for Celebrini. "I was nervous at first, as he's been my role model growing up. But getting to know him has been awesome." Celebrini also expresses his gratitude for Joe Thornton and his family, who have provided him with a sense of comfort and a second home this season.

As for the Olympics, Celebrini remains focused on the present. "There's still a lot of hockey to be played before then, and I can't assume I'll be on the team. So, no, I'm not thinking about it too much." He acknowledges that the Olympics have been a motivating factor, but with so much going on, he needs to stay focused on the here and now.

Celebrini believes GM Doug Armstrong and his team are closely watching everyone in consideration for the Olympic team. "They're taking in all the information and watching everyone play." And when it comes to his own performance this season, Celebrini is confident and believes in his abilities. "I've put in the work and I'm not surprised by my play."

He also shares his experience working out with Crosby and MacKinnon over the summer, calling it "great." But what about the intense Olympic speculation surrounding him and Bedard? Celebrini tries to stay off social media and block out the noise. "Everyone's entitled to their opinions, but there's so much of it that I just try to focus on what's in front of me."

Celebrini has gotten better at staying focused and present. "You take it chunk by chunk, focusing on the road trip, tomorrow's game in Pittsburgh, and the two games at a time. If you look too far ahead, it gets overwhelming." He's made an effort to stay off social media this year, especially during the summer and the start of this season, to avoid letting online opinions affect him.

And who's handling his social media presence? Celebrini reveals, "Will Smith does that for me." (laughs)

So, what do you think? Will Celebrini and Bedard both make it to the 2026 Olympics? And how do you handle the hype and speculation surrounding your favorite athletes? Let us know in the comments!
