It was a day that the students of the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Andhra Pradesh Backward Classes Welfare Educational Institutions Society (MJPAPBCWREIS) residential school in Kothavalasa will never forget. On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, they welcomed an unexpected yet globally celebrated guest: Sir David Beckham, the former captain of England’s national football team and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

Beckham’s arrival turned the quiet school campus in Visakhapatnam into a stage for innovation in learning. He had come to witness firsthand how Project-Based Learning (PBL) is transforming classrooms through a powerful collaboration between Mantra4Change and Education Above All (EAA). This initiative, part of a wider effort supported by EAA, is actively redefining teaching practices in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, and Nagaland.

But here’s where it gets truly interesting—Beckham didn’t just stand by nodding politely. He immersed himself in a real classroom experience. Seated among the students, he watched young learners debate, discuss, and problem-solve in groups during a PBL session. The activity wasn’t about rote memorization; it was about thinking critically and collaboratively. Following the session, students proudly guided him through an exhibition they had prepared, showcasing hands-on projects in English, Mathematics, and Science. Their work demonstrated how education could mirror the challenges and wonders of the world around them.

Classrooms once centered on lectures are now buzzing with inquiry, creativity, and teamwork, as students tackle real-world challenges through projects.
