Will the UK's Rainy Days Soon Be Over? A Chilly Intermission.
The UK's recent weather has been a relentless downpour, but a temporary shift is on the horizon. The Met Office reveals that an Arctic air mass will bring a brief respite from the rain, but with a wintry twist. As temperatures drop, the rain will transition to sleet and snow, especially over higher grounds and even lower elevations for a short period.
According to Jason Kelly, a Met Office chief forecaster, 'Snowfall will be a sight to behold, particularly in elevated regions. Scotland and northern England's higher altitudes may wake up to a winter wonderland, with up to 10 cm of snow at 300 meters or more.'
But here's where it gets tricky: as the cold front moves south, the rain and snow will clear, but the cold, clear skies could cause ice to form on untreated surfaces, so caution is advised.
A sunny Saturday is on the cards, with high pressure ensuring a rain-free day for most. However, the weather won't stay calm for long. By Sunday, the Atlantic takes center stage again, with a weather front bringing rain, wind, and snow back to northern regions.
