Hold on tight, because the world of competitive Counter-Strike is about to get a whole lot more turbulent! Rumor has it that a significant number of top-tier teams are on the verge of major roster shakeups, and the fallout from the Budapest StarLadder Major could be bigger than anyone anticipated.
According to Milan "Striker" Švejda, Editor-in-Chief at HLTV, during a recent episode of HLTV Confirmed (you can catch the relevant clip here: https://youtu.be/hWocsrB69TY?si=YfrvPDhsUUcprdet&t=1755), at least five teams currently sitting within the top 15 of the HLTV rankings are "already looking" at making roster changes. Striker hinted that the actual number could be even higher, suggesting, "Some of them may be a bit further than others... Some I'm pretty convinced they will be making changes... I'm sure that's going to expand, it's probably more like half, realistically."
Now, before we dive into speculation, let's look at what we already know. Two teams have already reportedly begun making changes, with one already official. First, Dust2.com.br broke the news that paiN, currently ranked 10th, will be parting ways with Franco "dgt" Garcia and David "dav1deuS" Tapia. PaiN themselves confirmed this benching (https://www.hltv.org/news/43413/official-pain-remove-dgt-and-dav1deus) shortly after, solidifying the report. Furthermore, HLTV and Dust2.dk are reporting that Nicolai "device" Reedtz is poised to join 100 Thieves. If this transfer goes through, Astralis, currently ranked 11th, will also need to fill a significant gap in their roster.
But here's where it gets controversial... While these two changes are already in motion, the question remains: which other teams are considering a shakeup? While there's no concrete reporting on specific targets yet, some teams’ recent performances make them prime candidates for potential changes. Liquid, for instance, had a truly disappointing showing in Budapest. To quote Chad "SPUNJ" Burchill, their performance was nothing short of "diabolical." Such a significant underperformance could easily lead to internal discussions about roster adjustments. FaZe Clan is another interesting case. While they managed to claw their way to a playoff spot after a disastrous start, the team might be considering a change in their AWPer role. Helvijs "broky" Saukants hasn't been performing up to par, and FaZe could be looking for a more consistent sniper. Spirit and G2 are also teams to watch closely in the coming weeks; their performance in the playoffs will likely play a big part in their decisions.
And this is the part most people miss... It's unlikely that the very top teams will make changes unless some shocking upsets occur during the Major playoffs. Teams like FURIA and Vitality, who have consistently been at the top of the rankings, are probably safe from any major roster alterations, barring a catastrophic performance in Budapest. Stability is key at the top, and these teams have built strong foundations.
